The AmTryke is a specially engineered therapeutic tricycle developed by the national AMBUCS organization. Unlike standard bikes or trikes, AmTrykes are designed from the ground up for people with disabilities — with customizable seating, hand or foot pedaling options, and adaptive supports.
Riding an AmTryke builds strength, coordination, and confidence. For many recipients, it's the first time they've experienced independent movement — and the physical and emotional benefits are profound.
Each tricycle is custom-fitted by a licensed therapist to match the individual's specific needs, ensuring the best possible therapeutic outcome.

From Application to Delivery
Submit an Application
Complete our simple application form below or contact us directly. You can apply on behalf of a child or adult. A therapist referral is helpful but not always required to start the process.
Therapist Evaluation
A licensed therapist evaluates the recipient to determine the best AmTryke model, size, and configuration. This ensures the tricycle is safe, comfortable, and therapeutically beneficial.
Custom Fitting & Delivery
Once approved, we order and assemble the custom-fitted AmTryke. Our volunteers deliver it directly to the family — at absolutely no cost.
Ongoing Support
We stay in touch after delivery. If adjustments are needed as the recipient grows or their needs change, we're here to help.
Common Questions
Is there really no cost to the family?
Yes — AmTrykes are provided completely free of charge to qualifying recipients. Our chapter fundraises year-round specifically to cover the cost of each tricycle.
How long does the process take?
The timeline varies depending on the evaluation schedule and tricycle availability, but most families receive their AmTryke within a few months of applying.
Does my child need a therapist referral to apply?
A therapist referral is strongly encouraged and required for the evaluation step, but you can begin the application process without one. We can help connect you with a therapist if needed.
What ages are eligible?
AmTrykes are available for children and adults of all ages. The smallest models are designed for children as young as 2–3 years old.
What if we live outside the Huntsville area?
Our chapter serves the Huntsville TN Valley area. If you're outside our service area, we can refer you to the nearest AMBUCS chapter. There are chapters across the country.
Can an adult with a disability apply?
Absolutely. AmTrykes are designed for people of all ages. Adults with physical, cognitive, or developmental disabilities are welcome to apply.
